Этоmeans, что we can learn all our life, change our habits, recover after injuries. Мозг — это not static organ, he constantly changes in response to our experience. И именно this ability makes us who we are, and gives us hope for the future.
Неврологические заболевания — это one из main reasons of disability and mortality in the world. По данным ВОЗ, more than 1 billion people suffer from nervous system disorders. This includes Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, migraines, depression and many others. But many of them can be prevented or slowed down. A healthy lifestyle — sleep, physical activity, proper nutrition, refusal of harmful habits — directly affects the state of the brain. Всемирный день мозга — это reminder that we need to take care of the brain not only when something hurts, but constantly.
Interestingly, social factors also affect the health of the brain: communication, education, new experiences. The brain loves novelty. He likes it when he is given tasks, when he is forced to think, when he is confronted with the unexpected. Therefore, travel, reading, hobbies, learning languages are not just entertainments, but investments in your future thinking.
Around the brain there are many myths. One of the most popular is that we use only 10% of our brain. This is not true. We use the whole brain, but not always simultaneously. Different parts are activated depending on the task, but no one is \"unused\". Another myth is that alcohol kills brain cells. In fact, he disrupts the connections between neurons, but does not kill them en masse. Another one is that the left hemisphere is responsible for logic, and the right one for creativity. This simplification: both hemispheres work together, and their functions are strongly intertwined. There is a myth that the brain does not recover after damage. But neuroplasticity proves the opposite: the brain can compensate for losses by restructuring connections.
All these myths arose because the brain is a complex organ, and science still does not know much about it. But this does not mean that we need to believe in pseudoscience. The best way to take care of the brain is to rely on facts. And Всемирный день мозга — is a good reason to start understanding facts.
Всемирный день мозга — this is not only about conferences, but also about simple actions. You can read a book on neurobiology or watch a documentary about the work of the brain. You can solve puzzles or learn a new language. You can engage in meditation or physical activity — they improve blood supply to the brain. You can discuss with friends how memory works or why we have dreams. You can simply ask yourself the question: \"What did I do for my brain today?\" If the answer is \"nothing\", then this is a reason to start.
Schools and universities often hold open lectures and workshops on this day. The internet appears quizzes and challenges that help learn more about neurosciences. The main thing is not to remain indifferent. Because our brain is the only tool with which we know the world, and we must treat it with respect and care.
Neuroscience is rapidly developing. Scientists can already read thoughts with the help of MRI, insert electrodes for the treatment of depression, slow down the aging of the brain with the help of stimulation. Artificial intelligence is learning to imitate the work of neural networks, and this opens up new horizons. But the main question remains: what is consciousness? How does subjective experience arise? Can artificial intelligence become conscious? These questions still do not have answers, but scientists are getting closer to the solution.
In the future we will face personalized medicine that will take into account individual characteristics of the brain. Today, methods for early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease are being developed. Perhaps in a few decades we will be able to prevent the aging of the brain. But the main thing is that we will understand ourselves better. And this, perhaps, is the most important discovery that can be made.
Всемирный день мозга — this is not just a calendar date. This is a reminder that we are our brain. Our thoughts, feelings, memories — all this is born in it. We often forget about it in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, but he never forgets about us. He works every second, even when we are not aware of it. 22 July — the day to say thank you. Say not in words, but in actions: sleep well, go for a walk, read, be curious. Because a happy brain is the basis of a happy life.
